Train Your Brain –NeurOptimal® Neurofeedback

What is neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback sessions with Natalie Baker in New York CityNeurOptimal® Neurofeedback trains the brain to function optimally by
using present moment information rather than habituated, often
maladaptive, response patterns.

During training the brain uses visual and auditory information offered by
NeurOptimal to re-organize itself and release old patterns of “stuckness.”
The result is effortless transformation with few unwanted effects. Clients train for a variety of reason: peak performance, alleviation of symptoms, emotional issues, learning problems, and personal/spiritual growth.

What results can I expect?

When the brain is trained with NeurOptimal clients may notice the following:
•    Feeling calmer
•    Increased mental clarity and focus
•    Dropping away of fears
•    More appropriate responses to situations
•    Feeling lighter and greater ease
•    Increased motivation and ability to accomplish tasks

Although NeurOptimal does not treat specific conditions, specific symptoms
are alleviated because you are improving the overall functioning of the central
nervous system.  A recent survey of NeurOptimal trainers comprising 1.2
million sessions found these areas of function improved with training:
•    Stress— worry and fearfulness
•    Anxiety, panic, hypervigilance
•    Sleep disorders
•    Depression
•    Learning problems— ADHD symptoms, lack of focus, inability to attend to tasks
•    Headaches and migraines
•    PTSD and trauma symptoms
•    Anger
•    Head and brain injuries
•    Cravings and addictions
•    Low self-esteem and self-image
•    Stuck patterns of thinking and behaving

How many sessions are required?

The study results of 1.2 million sessions indicate significant improvement was seen after 11-20 sessions. Clients, on average, train for 15-25 sessions. Results vary, and on rare occasion, minimal results are seen.

Neuroplasticity and Neurofeedback

Neuroplasticity is the brain’s ability to “rewire”  or reorganize itself by forming or changing neural connections, altering the functioning of different parts of the brain.

In recent years, neuroplasticity gaining attention due to popular writings by doctors such as Oliver Sacks and Deepak Chopra.  They report how research shows that the brain is changeable throughout life, not just in the formative years of childhood, as was previously thought.

Neurofeedback training is the application of neuroplasticity by giving the brain information about its most recent behaviour.  This feedback allows the brain to use its plastic nature to change how it functions to perform more efficently and effectively—even when there are areas of damage such as with strokes and brain injuries.

What NeurOptimal neurofeedback is not…..

Adding anything to your brain. The eeg nodes placed on your head gather information and then feed it back to your brain through stopping the music.  All the changes that occur come from your own brain deciding how to optimize its functioning.
Treating specific disorders. Rather the brain is training in using feedback about what it just did to self-correct and as a result functioning improves in many areas of one’s health.
A training that needs you to make any effort during the session in order to be effective. The central nervous system is giving itself feedback, which it then integrates outside of your conscious awareness. “You mean I don’t have to do anything?!”  Yes, that’s right.
Shocking your brain, or changing your personality. If you identify with your anxiety or depression and those symptoms start to dissipate you may want to examine who you are independent of your symptoms.  This shift is often a time when clients find a more creative, playful self.
